From 24th – 27th November 2014 a site visit was organized to have TDR officials assess the facilities of UGSPH and the feasibility of having the institution function as a Regional Training Centre.
The TDR Director, Dr. John Reeder together with TDR Scientist Dr. Pascal Launois embarked on a three-day visit to UGSPH during which they had the opportunity to meet and interact with the Dean of the School of Public Health (Professor Richard Adanu), the project PI (Dr. Phyllis Dako-Gyeke, other Lead members of the UGSPH Team (Prof. Edwin Afari, Prof. Moses Aikins, and Drs. Justice Nonvignon, Emmanuel Asampong, Francis Anto, Mercy Ackumey, etc).
Also there was a meeting between the TDR Team, UGSPH Team and Ghana Health Service representatives (Dr. Appiah-Denkyira, Director General Ghana Health Service, and Dr. Abraham Hodgson, Director Research and Development, Ghana Health Service). This was to confirm the support of GHS for the functions of the TDR Regional Training Centre. The TDR team also had the opportunity to visit other units at the University of Ghana Campus including Nogouchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, Balme Library, Translation Centre, etc.
