About the Webinar: Health Taxes: From Idea to Implementation
The World Bank and the World Health Organization, together with partners, are launching a country-focused webinar series exploring issues related to health financing, noncommunicable diseases and mental health.
On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, the opening session of this new series which will focus on health taxes.
Health taxes represent a win-win arrangement — they are good for population health and good for the public purse. This session will look at the policy and implementation processes to introduce health taxes in a country, including the role of coalitions in making the case, the type of evidence which is helpful and how the deliberations can contribute to a political momentum for more attention to NCDs.
In this webinar, building on the experience of Ghana and other countries, we will explore the challenges and barriers as well as opportunities, across policy stages, from agenda setting till implementation. The session will be conducted in English and interpreted simultaneously into Arabic, Chinese, English, French and Spanish. It will be interactive: you will be able to address your questions to the panelists.
