In a significant step toward promoting international academic collaboration and engagement, the School of Public Health at the University of Ghana (UG) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine at Tulane University, New Orleans, USA.
The MoU sets out a framework for deepening ties between the two institutions in the areas of research, innovation, and student exchange. Key goals of the partnership include collaborative grant applications, joint research initiatives, faculty exchanges, and cross-border educational opportunities.
As part of the MoU signing event, Prof. Thomas A. LaVeist, Dean of the Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, delivered a presentation highlighting Tulane University’s rich history, mission, and vision for the future of public health education and research.
A virtual panel discussion was held to further explore areas of collaboration between the two schools. Moderated by Prof. John Ganle from the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health at UG School of Public Health, the discussion featured Heads of Department from UG School of Public Health and faculty and students from Tulane University. The panel focused on shared research interests, particularly in climate change and health, and addressed broader challenges faced by academia and researchers across the African continent.

This partnership marks a significant milestone in UG's mission to expand its global footprint and enhance academic experiences. It is expected to provide students and faculty from both institutions with enriched learning opportunities, collaborative research pathways, and broader career development prospects.
