About Us

You are welcome to the Department of Epidemiology and Disease Control School of Public Health (UGSPH). It is one of the six Departments in the School. The department of Epidemiology and Disease Control was previously part of the Department of Biostatistics at the School of Public Health but became a separate department in January 2005.

The Department has the objective of contributing to strengthening national capacities for Applied Epidemiology and Disease Control in Ghana

Mission

To train public health practitioners who will be leaders and change agents for health development in Ghana in particular and in the wider African context.

Vision

Promote knowledge and be lead advocates for needed public health reforms in Ghana.

Objective of Department

General Objective
To contribute to strengthening national capacities for Applied Epidemiology
and disease control in Ghana.

Specific Objectives
• To develop competencies of health personnel at all levels in applied epidemiology and disease controls
• To develop a critical mass of Field/Applied Epidemiologists within the context of Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Programmes (FELTP) for
public health practice in Ghana
• To contribute to capacity development of health personnel in research particularly in clinical trials
• To provide service to MOH/GHS through integrated approach to the strengthening of human resource competencies for a robust public health
surveillance, outbreak investigation and response in Ghana
